Donato Aceto is an associate in the Intellectual Property/Information Technology group. Dr. Aceto assists clients with U.S. and foreign patent preparation and prosecution, and patent landscape and freedom-to-operate analyses. His technical expertise includes molecular and cell biology, genetics, genomics, biochemistry, and bioengineering.
Dr. Aceto has significant experience working for the U.S. Government prior to joining McCarter & English. He was a science and technology policy fellow at the U.S. Department of State under an American Association for the Advancement of Science program. Dr. Aceto created and managed multi-million dollar science engagement programs throughout the Middle East, and South and Southeast Asia. In addition, Dr. Aceto analyzed science and technology for various federal clients, including global developments in laboratory infrastructure and biotechnologies such as vaccines and diagnostics.
Dr. Aceto received his Ph.D. from Cornell University, where he studied the molecular mechanisms governing asymmetric cell division in the C. elegans nematode. He published his research on the structure and function of polarity-determining proteins in scientific journals and presented his work at scientific conferences.
Dr. Aceto received his J.D. degree from the Boston University School of Law in 2015. While in law school, he completed a legal externship with the business development and technology transfer team at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University.
