Topics to be presented include:
Assessing the impact of the economic downturn on employment law claims. This section of the program will review the statistics and outline steps that employers can implement to address common employment claims and concerns that arise in a bad economy.
Best practices for implementing reorganizations and reductions in force. This section of the program will cover the planning process and possible discrimination concerns, including a discussion of the recent United States Supreme Court decision in Meacham v. Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory addressing claims under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
Implementing effective severance programs.This section will highlight the impact of Section 409A of the Internal Revenue Code on severance programs. Section 409A requires changes in severance pay and other termination benefits.
Dealing with the increased threat of ERISA litigation that may occur as a result of the financial crisis.
