Mr. McLean is Special Counsel in the Firm’s Environmental & Energy and Corporate groups. He advises clients on matters of general corporate law, environmental law, franchise law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, securities law and regulatory compliance.
Mr. McLean has a diverse transactional practice, having worked on domestic and international matters in industries such as energy, chemicals, health care, life sciences, hospitality, transportation, private equity, consumer products and banking. His practice has afforded him the opportunity to work internationally for clients in China, Latin America, Canada, France, the United Kingdom and Germany.
Mr. McLean regularly represents clients in the energy space. His energy practice is particularly focused towards project development and finance. His representative energy clients include project developers, major energy and infrastructure funds, public utilities, leading equipment manufacturers, lenders and large independent power producers. Mr. McLean has experience siting renewable power projects on designated brownfields and has written and lectured extensively on renewable energy developments in New Jersey and throughout the Northeast.
Mr. McLean has been named a New Jersey Rising Star Superlawyer every year since 2012. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Environmental Law section and is the founder and current co-chair of the State Bar Association’s Special Committee on Renewable Energy, Clean Technology and Climate Change.
Mr. McLean serves on the Advisory Counsel of NJPACE, a non-profit focused on bringing property assessed clean energy (PACE) financing to New Jersey. He is also the President of the Board of Directors of GRID Alternatives Tri-State, a non-profit organization dedicated to installing solar electric systems for low-income families in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
In addition to his energy practice, Mr. McLean advises clients on day-to-day corporate and commercial matters such as financing issues and the negotiation of manufacturing, supply, distribution and service agreements. As outside corporate counsel, he has represented dozens of companies, guiding them through all stages of growth. He has also spent three months embedded in a large life-science company developing a corporate legal form database and corporate policy handbook.
A lifelong New Jersey resident, Mr. McLean is especially proud to represent closely-held middle market companies doing business in the Garden State.
Active in his community, Mr. McLean is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Clarence Dillon Joint Free Public Library of Bedminster and Far Hills; a member of the Newark Museum’s Business Counsel; a member of the Board of Trustees for the Pingry Alumni Association; and is a class representative for Bowdoin College.
As an undergraduate, Mr. McLean was the captain of his varsity men’s lacrosse team.
Mr. McLean lives in Bernardsville, NJ, with his wife and two children. In his free time, he enjoys cooking and playing golf, ice hockey and tennis.
