Law Firm Announces New Attorneys in the IP/IT, Labor & Employment and Corporate Practices
Hartford, CT (February 7, 2011)—McCarter & English LLP is pleased to announce that six attorneys – Richard L. Green, Mitchell L. Fishberg, Richard F. Vitarelli, Elizabeth M. Smith, Karen L. Culton and Catherine Moreton Gray – have joined the firm's Hartford office. Mr. Green, Mr. Fishberg and Mr. Vitarelli joined as partners. In addition, the firm has brought on attorney Evan M. Rosing to join the firm's New York office. All seven lawyers are joining from Robinson & Cole LLP.

Mr. Green (Hartford), who served as chair of Robinson & Cole's Outsourcing, Supply Chain and Technology Transactions Practice, is now a partner in McCarter's Intellectual Property/Information Technology Practice. He provides legal and business counsel to Global 2000 corporations, Wall Street banks, emerging companies and individual inventors in matters involving the sourcing, commercialization, use and protection of intellectual property, technology and technology enabled products and services around the world. Mr. Green earned his J.D. from the University of Connecticut Law School and his B.A., summa cum laude, from Central Connecticut State University. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Mr. Fishberg (Hartford) was previously chair of Robinson & Cole's Employment Litigation and Non-Competition/Trade Secret Practice groups and joins McCarter as a partner in the firm's Labor & Employment Practice. He provides legal and business advice to corporate employers in both transactional and litigation-related matters. In addition to representing his clients' interests in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies involving the full range of employment law claims, from claims of discrimination, harassment and wrongful termination to trade secret and non-competition litigation, he also handles the employment and HR aspects of outsourcing, mergers & acquisitions, entity restructuring and other corporate transactions. Mr. Fishberg earned his J.D., with honors, from The George Washington University Law School and a B.A. from Lafayette College.
Mr. Vitarelli (Hartford), who served as chair of Robinson & Cole's firmwide Labor & Employment Practice, is now a partner in McCarter's Labor & Employment Practice. He advises clients on labor relations and employment law aspects of mergers and acquisitions, union organizing, corporate restructuring, and contract administration. He represents and defends employers, management only, before the state and federal departments of labor, the NLRB and other agencies. From 2001-2007, he served as outside general counsel to the Waterbury Connecticut Financial Planning and Assistance Board, a state emergency oversight board that successfully restructured Waterbury's finances, labor contracts and post-employment benefits. He also served as commissioner of the Connecticut State Ethics Commission. Mr. Vitarelli has a J.D., cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Boston College.
Ms. Smith (Hartford) joins McCarter's Labor & Employment Practice as special counsel. She concentrates her practice in the areas of commercial litigation, employment law and regulatory affairs. Ms. Smith, who was previously counsel at Robinson & Cole, has appeared in state and federal court and before administrative agencies on behalf of representative clients in the fields of banking, financial services, insurance, public utilities and healthcare. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Smith worked for more than a decade as a clinical chemist and toxicologist in the healthcare industry. She received her B.S. from Mississippi State University, a M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut and her J.D., with honors, from the University of Connecticut Law School.
Ms. Culton (Hartford) joins McCarter as special counsel in the Corporate, Securities & Financial Institutions Practice. She represents clients in mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, reorganizations, other business transactions, the structuring and formation of entities, and general corporate and governance matters. Ms. Culton, who was previously counsel at Robinson & Cole, has represented both public and private companies in numerous industries, including consulting, IT, financial services, and manufacturing, among others. She earned her J.D., with honors, from The George Washington University Law School and a M.A., with honors, from University of St. Andrews.
Ms. Gray (Hartford) has more than 20 years of experience in human resources and employment law, and has joined McCarter as an associate in the Labor & Employment Practice. She was an associate at Robinson & Cole. Ms. Gray focuses her practice on advising employers on all aspects of the employment relationship, including representing employers in government audits, before administrative agencies and in federal and state courts. Previously, Ms. Gray was a recruiter for The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, and served as a senior compensation analyst at Barclays Business Credit. She also was the managing editor for Business & Legal Reports, a group of HR and compensation publications. She earned her J.D. from the University of Connecticut Law School and a B.A. from Guilford College.
Mr. Rosing (New York) joins Mr. Green in the IP/IT practice at McCarter as an associate. Previously an associate at Robinson & Cole, he concentrates his practice on technology and sourcing matters. Mr. Rosing regularly counsels and assists clients with a wide range of complex transactional matters involving technology, intellectual property, e-business, and outsourcing. He also has experience counseling clients in the media and sports industries. He has worked with cable operators advising them in an array of programming agreements, and various sports clients, including sports teams, individual athletes, and companies, advising them on endorsement and licensing deals. Mr. Rosing earned his B.A., with distinction, from the University of Michigan and his J.D., cum laude, from American University Washington College of Law.
With the addition of these six lawyers, McCarter's Hartford office has grown to 45 attorneys and is now the firm's third largest office behind Newark and Boston. The Hartford office includes numerous members of firm management, including members of the executive committee, the firm's former managing partner and three practice group leaders, including those for IP/IT and Labor & Employment.
