Mr. Rubin is a construction counselor in the firm's Real Estate/ Construction/ Environmental Practice Group. He is particularly well-regarded for his experience in complex construction litigation representing governmental and private owners, developers, institutions, sureties, project managers, construction managers, general contractors, members of the design team and trade contractors. He has extensive experience in the use of mediation, arbitration, dispute review boards and other alternative dispute resolution techniques to resolve construction disputes short of litigation. He is regularly retained to mediate and/or arbitrate large-scale national and international disputes, such as problems with a natural gas liquefaction plant in the Amazon jungle and the failure of a breakwater in one of the Aleutian islands.
In addition, Mr. Rubin's practice includes drafting and negotiating design and construction contracts. He has been the lead partner in charge of drafting and negotiating contracts for projects involving energy plants, pipelines, highways, bridges, mass transit, telecommunications, municipal and governmental agencies, industrial and high-rise buildings, insurance disputes including builder's risk and professional liability claims and major Forbes Fortune 500 companies.
Mr. Rubin has authored and co-authored various articles and texts, including the New York Construction Law Manual (Thomson West). Bob also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University, where he serves on both the faculties of law and civil engineering. Among other publications, Chambers USA Guide to America's Leading Business Lawyers recognized Bob as one of the leading construction attorneys in New York and the United States in 2003-2010 and in 2006 was the recipient of the Chambers Award of Excellence in Construction Law. He is the 2007 recipient of the prestigious Cornerstone Award of the ABA, Forum on the Construction Industry. Mr. Rubin is listed in the 2009 and 2010 issues of The Best Lawyers in America.
Mr. Rubin is a member of the Construction Industry Arbitration and Mediation Panels of the American Arbitration Association, is a member of the Construction Panel, CPR Panel of Distinguished Neutrals, CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution, and is a Certified Mediator, International Mediation Institute. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York. He is Past President of the American College of Construction Lawyers; Past President of the Dispute Resolution Board Foundation; a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators; a member of the National Academy of Construction; a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers; a Director of the ACE Mentor Program and is a member of The Moles.
