McCarter & English Elects Catherine A. Mohan to Firm's Executive Committee

Founding Partner of the Hartford Office to Serve as Member of Firm Leadership

HARTFORD, CT (May 14, 2010) - McCarter & English has elected partner Catherine A. Mohan as a member of the firm's 11-member Executive Committee, effective immediately. The founding partner of the firm's Hartford office, which was established in 2001, Mohan has been an attorney at McCarter for almost ten years and was the first female partner to hold the title of office managing partner.  In addition to her role on the Executive Committee, she will continue her work in the product liability practice at the firm.

"Cathy is one of the most experienced trial attorneys. And she has a very strong reputation as a leader at the firm, stemming from her involvement as a founding partner of our Hartford office," said Michael P. Kelly, chairman of the firm's Executive Committee.  "As a strategic thinker and motivator, we are pleased to have Cathy join us on the committee and look forward to her insight as we continue building our brand."

Mohan's primary areas of practice are complex products liability, toxic tort, pharmaceutical, environmental, and personal injury litigation.  For more than 24 years, she has represented multi-national Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies throughout the United States and has been national counsel to asbestos litigation defendants for a large part of her career. In this capacity, she has represented manufacturing companies to coordinate their asbestos litigation throughout the country, including Texas, New York, California, Oregon and Washington. She has also tried cases in several states, including consolidated trials with hundreds of plaintiffs.

"I am very honored by the opportunity to serve my firm as a member of our Executive Committee," said Mohan.  "I will take great care in pursuing the firm's strategic goals and continue our commitment to excellence as well as strive to maintain our sense of diversity and community."

Having resolved thousands of cases nationally, Mohan is the co-defense liaison counsel for the asbestos docket in Connecticut.  In addition, she has been involved in conducting the depositions nationwide of plaintiffs and treating physicians in the anti-psychotic medications litigation since 2008.

Recognized as one of the most experienced asbestos defense lawyers in the country, Mohan has been a James W. Cooper Fellow of the Connecticut Bar Association for the past five years.  She was also selected as a Connecticut Super Lawyer in the Class Action/Mass Tort category, the only individual to be named in that category in 2006.

Mohan earned her B.A. from Wheaton College, magna cum laude, and her J.D. from Georgetown University School of Law.  She is a member of the American Bar Association, Connecticut Bar Association and Hartford County Bar Association.  In addition, she currently serves on the board of  Mercy Housing and Shelter in Hartford and acts as chairman for its Capital Campaign.
