Mr. Cooner handles civil litigation with a particular focus on the defense of product liability cases involving medical product manufacturers, pharmaceutical and chemical companies, and makers of consumer products. He also represents labs, healthcare organizations and other business entities in commercial disputes and consumer class actions, and counsels such clients with regard to litigation management and risk avoidance.

Mr. Cooner has tried product liability, premises liability and commercial cases, and has argued cases before the trial and intermediate courts in several states. He has been counsel of record in almost two dozen reported decisions. He often serves as national product liability counsel with regard to product lines for clients in the medical device, consumer product and chemical industries.

In that capacity, Mr. Cooner has represented numerous medical product manufacturers in state and federal courts throughout the country, defending claims involving a wide array of surgical tools, diagnostic and therapeutic medical devices, implants and durable medical equipment. He has also handled cases involving a variety of prescription pharmaceuticals including analgesics, antidepressants, contraceptives, synthetic hormones and antibiotics. He has defended individual cases and served on teams that have managed and handled national, regional and class action litigations concerning prescription medicines and devices.

Mr. Cooner has served as counsel in a variety of other class action litigations, including consumer fraud cases related to the design, pricing, recall, etc. of various consumer products as well as class action defense work for leasing and food service companies.

His work outside of the life sciences industry also includes serving as counsel for manufacturers of chemicals, plastics and polymers, laboratory and chemical processing equipment, school buses and luxury motor coaches, and exercise and rehabilitation equipment, among other products.

Mr. Cooner regularly speaks on topics of relevance to product manufacturers and has authored several publications that address legal issues in pharmaceutical, medical device and other product liability cases, including with regard to the admissibility of scientific evidence. 

From 2012-2018, he has been recognized as a leading lawyer by Chambers USA. He is also listed in New Jersey Super Lawyers in 2006-2018, Best Lawyers in America in 2019, and was recognized as Medmarc Defense Attorney of the Year in 2003.
