Joshua J. Galgano, Ph.D.

Dr. Galgano is an associate in the Intellectual Property & Information Technology practice group. His work involves all aspects of biotechnology, polymer science, and chemical patent prosecution. Dr. Galgano earned a Ph.D. in chemical and biochemical engineering from the University of Iowa where he synthesized and investigated photo-responsive dendritic polyester films for photonic optical applications. Prior to graduate school, Dr. Galgano majored in polymer science from the University of Southern Mississippi where he aided in the characterization and synthesis of RAFT controlled free radical polymerized water based polymers. Dr. Galgano focuses on various polymer film and coating applications including anti-microbial and anti-scratch coatings.

Prior to joining McCarter & English, Dr. Galgano was an associate at a leading boutique intellectual property law firm in Washington, D.C.

During law school, Dr. Galgano was recognized as the national winner of the 41st Annual Giles Sutherland Rich Patent Moot Court Competition where he argued current patent law issues in front of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. In addition, Dr. Galgano contributed to the invention and patent for a medical device used in facilitating intravenous catheter administration.

Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Galgano worked in Pittsburgh, PA as a regulatory compliance chemist in the polyurethane division of Bayer Material Science. In addition, Dr. Galgano worked on the research and development of resin based products for Resinall Corp. in Hattiesburg, MS. Furthermore, Dr. Galgano served six years in the United States Air Force.

Dr. Galgano is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, he is not admitted to practice in Massachusetts.
