Nicholas Caiafa focuses his practice on the preparation and prosecution of mechanical, electrical, and chemical patent applications. Those applications include a broad range of technologies involving medical devices, mechanical devices, agricultural devices, electrical devices, chemical processes, and other related technologies. Mr. Caiafa has worked with clients ranging from startups to large entities.

Prior to becoming an intellectual property attorney, Mr. Caiafa was a Design Engineer at Parker Hannifin, where he worked in a research and development incubator, funded by the Chief Technology Officer. He was the primary engineer on the development of a piezoelectric surgical bone cutting device, where he designed, modeled, and tested functional prototypes to meet customer specifications, and further performed proof-of-concept demonstrations for interested entities and Parker Hannifin executives. In the year prior to attending law school, Mr. Caiafa transitioned to the development of balance of plant designs for fuel cell applications, where he focused primarily on fluid mechanic applications, including the design and testing of desulfurization filters and blower configurations. He performed patentability searches for each balance of plant component and summarized his findings for engineers and management. Mr. Caiafa also managed the workload of several engineering interns.

Outside the office, Mr. Caiafa enjoys woodworking and restoring/modifying/repairing cars and other small engine equipment. He is also a proud Eagle Scout.
