Ryan Richman helps clients reach practical and efficient solutions to their complex business problems.

Ryan handles complex commercial litigation and product liability defense. In his commercial litigation practice, he defends corporations in disputes involving premises liability, breach of contract, construction, personal injury, public entity and wrongful death claims. He also defends commercial developers; technology companies in antitrust matters, licensing and contract disputes; and tavern owners in dram shop actions. His product liability practice includes defending single-plaintiff, mass tort and class action claims against manufacturers and pharmaceutical corporations. He also counsels clients as to warranty compliance.

Committed to public service and a leader in the community, Ryan is involved in complex guardianship and estate matters in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division, Probate Part, as a court-appointed attorney representing the interests of allegedly incapacitated persons. He additionally represents individuals seeking citizenship in the United States from KIND (Kids in Need of Defense) and abused women in domestic violence and family matters seeking protection from Partners for Women and Justice. He also represents individuals seeking legal assistance from Essex-Newark Legal Services, particularly in landlord-tenant disputes and collection matters.

Ryan graduated with high distinction from The Pennsylvania State University, Smeal College of Business, where he earned a B.S. degree in Finance and a minor in International Business. He received his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law-Newark, where he served as Information Technology Editor of the Women’s Rights Law Reporter, President of the Entertainment and Sports Law Society, and was a regional quarterfinalist of the JESSUP International Moot Court Competition. He was awarded the Honorable Francis Bloustein Scholarship, graduated cum laude, and was elected to the Order of the Coif Honor Society.

Ryan’s publications include having his note, “Title IX: The Trojan Horse in the Struggle for Female Athletic Coaches to Attain Equal Opportunities in Intercollegiate Sports,” published in the Virginia Sports & Entertainment Law Journal, and the 2012 Update of the State-by-State Survey of the Statute of Limitation and Repose Applicable to Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Litigation, published by the New Jersey and Delaware chapters of the American Bar Association.

Prior to joining the firm, Ryan served as a law clerk for the Honorable Bryan D. Garruto, J.S.C. (Ret.) and the Honorable Richard S. Rebeck, J.S.C., Superior Court of New Jersey, Middlesex Vicinage – Law Division (2011-2012). He also served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Freda L. Wolfson, United States District Court, District of New Jersey during the summer of 2009.

The New Jersey Defense Association elected Ryan to serve on the 2018-2020 Rules term for the Model Civil Jury Charge Committee,  a standing committee of the New Jersey Supreme Court which prepares and updates model civil jury charges to be useful to trial judges and litigants to accomplish the important function of adequately and understandably instructing civil juries.  In 2015, Ryan was named the New Jersey Defense Association “Young Lawyer of the Year.” He has also served as the Chair of the Young Lawyers Division of the NJDA. Ryan is also listed as a 2016-2019 Super Lawyers NJ Rising Star for Personal Injury Products Defense. He was recently named an Empire State Counsel Honoree in recognition of his pro bono service.
