Dr. Ma is a technical specialist in the Intellectual Property/Information Technology group. She focuses on U.S. and foreign patent preparation and prosecution in a variety of fields, including biochemistry, microbiology, virology, RNAi therapeutics, immunology and vaccine development.

Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Ma conducted her Ph.D. research at Yale University. She used single molecule Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (smFRET) imaging technique to study the conformational dynamics of the envelope glycoprotein (Env) of HIV-1. Her research revealed critical dynamic features of the HIV-1 Env, further illustrated the molecular mechanism of HIV-1 entry into host cells and had great impact on the vaccine design against AIDS. Dr. Ma published articles in top scientific journals, including Science, Nature Structural and Molecular Biology, eLife, Nature Communications, and MBio. Her work has also been presented at international meetings such as Cold Spring Harbor Retroviruses and the Keystone Symposia.

Dr. Ma was also an intern at the Office of Corporative Research of Yale University where she gathered experience in technology transfer, including pre-drafting patentability research, marketing and commercialization of innovations.
