Gov. Charlie Baker has guaranteed a legacy likely to last decades with a string of historic nominations to the state’s highest court, but members of the legal community say there’s still a need to bring diversity to the rest of the judiciary.
Stesha A. Emmanuel, president of the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association said achieving that diversity must start with looking at the “current infrastructure and who are the decision-makers.”
“We have to be conscious in making sure that if we want diverse candidates, we need to have diverse decision-makers,” said Emmanuel, a litigation attorney at McCarter & English.
