McCarter & English Enhances Their Government Affairs and Energy Practices with Addition of Grace Power

Press Release

4.26.2022

NEWARK, April 26, 2022 – McCarter & English, LLP has expanded its Government Affairs and Energy practices with the addition of Grace S. Power as a partner in Newark. Power has more than 20 years of energy industry experience and offers clients a deep understanding of the public policy issues, legislation, and regulations impacting the utility and energy sectors both in New Jersey and nationally.

“Grace is extremely knowledgeable in the energy and utility industry, including renewable energy infrastructure, and will provide our clients with valuable guidance on how to effectively operate and grow in this rapidly evolving industry,” said Guillermo Artiles, chair of McCarter’s Government Affairs practice. “Her experience with government regulators across the country gives her in-depth knowledge of people, policy, and protocol that will greatly benefit our clients, especially those in wind and solar, which appear to be where our nation’s energy future lies. I’ve known Grace for many years and am ecstatic to have her on our team.”

Power said she was drawn to McCarter for its practice breadth and geographic reach. “McCarter offers an incredible opportunity to grow my practice and serve an array of sophisticated clients,” said Power. “I look forward to leveraging my experience to advance the goals of the firm’s clients.

Power was previously Vice President, Regulatory Affairs for HomeServe USA, an independent provider of home repair service solutions that partners with utilities, municipalities, and directly with consumers, where she led the company’s nationwide regulatory strategy.

Power also served as Chief of Staff for the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) under Governor Phil Murphy. As part of BPU President Joseph Fiordaliso’s senior leadership team, Power chaired the 2019 New Jersey Energy Master Plan Committee, leading a multi-agency public process with hundreds of stakeholders to develop a plan to achieve 100% clean energy by 2050. She also oversaw key gubernatorial initiatives, including the single-largest offshore wind project award in the country and the state’s first community solar pilot program.

In addition to her public service, Power spent a decade in private practice, providing regulatory and compliance counseling to clients, including retail energy suppliers, large national energy providers, and water utilities.

Power received a J.D from Rutgers School of Law, a Master of Public Affairs and Politics from Rutgers University, Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, and a B.A., cum laude, from Rutgers University.
