Dave Sorin is Chair of the Venture Capital & Emerging Growth Companies practice, a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, and office managing partner of the East Brunswick office. His national practice focuses on representing privately- and publicly-owned startup, emerging growth technology, tech-enabled and life science enterprises as well as the investors, executives, and directors who support or lead them. He has been a leader in representing investors and companies employing cutting edge technologies in a broad range of sectors, including software, telecommunications, life sciences, information technology, e-commerce, mobile communications and applications, Internet-of-Things, artificial intelligence and machine learning, augmented and virtual reality, fintech, proptech, blockchain, smart contracts and digital currencies. Clients rely on Dave’s shrewd legal and business acumen, coupled with his abilities to stay several steps ahead of emerging trends in technology innovation and the venture capital space.
Recognizing that service to emerging growth and middle market enterprises is largely incompatible with the cost infrastructure associated with today’s law firm, Dave, together with his partners, founded and ran his own boutique firm to meet the new business realities head-on. His firm merged with McCarter to strategically leverage its geographical scale and to provide clients with a full-service model to support them throughout their business lifecycles.
He is actively involved in the growth of the venture capital and emerging growth company ecosystems. Among his accomplishments, he co-founded TechUnited:NJ, Jumpstart (a network of angel investors), and unique accelerator program entreprenYOURS, Inc., which employs an innovative cross-ownership model to foster collaboration and community among the accelerator’s portfolio companies while mitigating risk to investors and entrepreneurs. In addition, Dave co-founded a venture capital fund focused on investing in early-stage and emerging growth companies in the MidAtlantic region. He also serves on the Board of the New York Venture Capital Association.
Dave shares his deep venture capital experience with future leaders in the space as an adjunct professor at the Cornell Law School Technology Law LLM Program. Previously, Dave also taught at Drexel University and Seton Hall University School of Law. He also is a frequent author and speaker on issues critical to emerging growth technology companies and their investors. And, as if that isn’t enough, Dave also is a Certified Public Accountant.
He is eternally enthusiastic about his work. When he is not handling a transaction, meeting with clients, or providing thought-provoking insights at a seminar, you can find him at the Jersey shore with his family.
