Clients rely on Kathy Rentas’s broad experience in the housing finance, securities enforcement defense, and real estate sectors, managing litigation, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and transactional matters. Her experience includes serving as a director and associate general counsel at Fannie Mae, where she led legal teams that worked to mitigate risk for a multibillion dollar portfolio.
During her time at Fannie Mae, Kathy drafted and negotiated complex multimillion dollar agreements, including mortgage servicing rights agreements and nonperforming and re-performing mortgage loan sale agreements, and secured and tracked billions in company assets. She advised on compliance with consumer finance laws and regulations and helped develop processes to assess and avoid risk, manage regulatory investigations, and monitor litigation. She conceived and drafted prevailing legal arguments in litigations that helped save the mortgage industry billions and saved Fannie Mae millions.
Kathy’s experience extends to handling complex real estate litigation on behalf of developers and other companies in the real estate sector and federal and state securities and M&A-related litigation. She has also led in-house teams managing the legal, governance, compliance and risk functions of a not-for-profit association.
