Michael Puzyk advises leading domestic and international businesses, as well as individuals, in all aspects of state and local taxation, with an emphasis on New Jersey tax matters, including income, employment, sales and use, gross receipts, franchise, and property taxes. He provides comprehensive support in tax controversies, representing clients in audits and administrative appeals across various states, including, but not limited to the Multistate Tax Commission (multistate managed audit), California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, New York City, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
Additionally, Michael offers advice on compliance, financial reporting, and strategic corporate matters such as business restructurings, mergers, acquisitions, and dispositions. Michael’s practice spans a diverse array of industries, including financial services, manufacturing, life sciences, consumer products, and professional services, among others.
Michael has also worked alongside the New Jersey Division of Taxation on numerous technical matters over the years. He has provided valuable guidance on tax issues and policy, including corporation business tax reforms and proposed regulations to the New Jersey legislature, the Division of Taxation, and various industry organizations.
Prior to joining McCarter, Michael spent nearly 15 years at EY, where he advised some of the New York area’s largest advanced manufacturing, life science, consumer products, professional services, financial and other industry clients, and acted as the New Jersey state tax desk for the global firm’s network. He left EY as a Senior Manager for State and Local Tax.
