Business Leaders Learn About Connecticut Offshore Wind Opportunities

7.18.2019

A packed room of industry leaders gathered at the offices of McCarter & English, LLP on Tuesday to learn about recent developments moving Connecticut towards becoming a major hub for offshore wind generation.

Leading Connecticut state officials and offshore wind supply chain stakeholders outlined the state of the offshore wind marketplace in Connecticut and underscored the many opportunities for participants to enter this growing marketplace. Marissa Gillett, Chair of the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, discussed recent legislative commitments to large-scale procurement of offshore wind. A new Connecticut law authorizes the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to procure up to 2,000 megawatts of offshore wind power.

The panel featured: Liz Burdock (CEO and President of Business Network for Offshore Wind), David Kooris, (Deputy Commissioner, Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development) and Matthew Morrissey (Head of New England Markets, Ørsted U.S. Offshore Wind) who discussed the redevelopment plans for the State Pier in New London that will support the fast-growing offshore wind industry in New England.
