A New Jersey panel of attorneys, lawmakers, judges and other stakeholders released recommendations for handling business litigation in the state on Wednesday, which include the statewide expansion of a complex commercial case pilot program in Bergen and Essex counties.
The 13-member Working Group on Business Litigation said in its report that under the expansion, one judge in each county with business background or familiarity with complex business issues — or a judge interested in developing expertise in those areas — will be assigned to handle complex commercial cases with a threshold amount of $200,000. The working group also said it will work in consultation with the civil practice division of the Administrative Office of the Courts to properly identify complex commercial cases.
