Massachusetts’s federal court system is deciding on new rules that could speed up that patent case process, leading to lower legal bills. Massachusetts tech and biotech companies may file more intellectual property lawsuits as a result.
“I don’t know that I can put a number on it, but I think it’s going to increase significantly,” said Erik Paul Belt , a McCarter & English LLP partner who helped draft the proposed rules.
It’s possible that firms will need to increase headcount to match the demand for intellectual property work. “It could definitely lead to a hiring spree here,” Belt said.
