Sarah Smith spoke on the Financings of Charter Schools: Issues and Opportunities panel session at the National Association of Bond Lawyers conference in Chicago, IL.
This panel, in recognition of the significant expansion in charter schools, will explore the issues associated with the financing of charter schools, including marketing of charter school debt. Because charter schools are creatures of state law, their corporate status, the security that can be offered for a financing and the limits on the terms of charters necessarily will vary. In turn, those variations will directly affect the available financing structures. The panel will discuss those structures and the issues faced by the parties to a charter school financing in two sessions. The first session will be a general overview of charter school financings, while the second session will focus on risk factors associated with charter school financings.
