Despite Google’s resounding defeat last year in the US Department of Justice’s case targeting its search monopoly, the company will face only a mixed bag of remedies aimed at propping up search engine rivals and limiting its distribution contracts. However, if the fixes Judge Mehta ordered don’t work, he left open the possibility of taking another look over the course of the six-year remedy, which includes one year for implementation.
Robin Crauthers spoke with Law360 regarding the remedies decision and said “these things are modifiable.” The market, she said, will watch and rivals can always complain if the fixes aren’t accomplishing their goals.
“It’s something we can monitor and reopen for discussion,” Crauthers said.
