The federal government is doubling down on a balanced AI strategy—one that supports innovation while setting clear parameters.
McCarter partner Erin M. Prest spoke with Privacy Daily about how the administration’s June AI executive order reflects a continuation of the White House’s existing approach, balancing innovation with voluntary guardrails and leaving key implementation details to be worked out.
Overall, the executive order is “company and invention-friendly in terms of setting some guardrails” and “putting some parameters around [AI] without overly stifling innovation,” Erin said. But the “devil’s in the details,” she said, so it’ll be “interesting” to see how it plays out.
