New Jersey Supreme Court Associate Justice Barry T. Albin recently ended a 20-year run on the state’s highest court just a day ahead of his 70th birthday, the mandatory retirement age for state judges and Justices in New Jersey. In an article published by NJ.com, McCarter Partner, Justice Jaynee LaVecchia (ret.) described Justice Albin as “a seasoned and versatile trial attorney” who was “savvy to strategy, and therefore brought practical insight to his case reviews.”
The pair worked together for 19 years on the New Jersey Supreme Court prior to Justice LaVecchia retiring last year and later joining McCarter. “His work ethic was unsurpassed. He was always thoroughly prepared – on everything,” said LaVecchia. “And we knew we had better be as well. In my view, he made each of us better. We had to have our game on par with his, and that elevated the work of the entire Court … he let nothing slip by his careful review, research, and deliberation. In short, he did not cut corners – ever.”
