Former New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Jaynee LaVecchia has been appointed by Governor Mikie Sherrill to chair the state’s Judicial Advisory Panel, the body responsible for evaluating candidates for appointment to the Superior Court and the Supreme Court of New Jersey.
On August 31, Governor Sherrill signed Executive Order 22, continuing the Judicial Advisory Panel and establishing an eight-member body, including at least five former judges, to assist in the judicial selection process. The executive order also authorizes the Governor to designate the panel’s chair.
Justice LaVecchia, the longest-serving female justice in New Jersey history, served for more than 21 years on the New Jersey Supreme Court. During her tenure, she presided over hundreds of cases and authored numerous opinions addressing issues affecting many of the state’s most prominent industries. On her departure from the bench, her fellow justices cited her extensive knowledge of the intricacies of the state’s governmental laws and agencies.
