The Supreme Court’s controversial ruling finding broad immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts by the President will lead to more delays in the case against former President Trump for alleged interference in the 2020 election. Speaking with The Washington Post and USA Today, Robert Mintz, a former federal prosecutor, said the decision on presidential immunity “creates more heat than light. Rather than finding either clear immunity or no immunity for alleged criminal conduct, this new standard will unquestionably lead to protracted hearings and further appeals as the lower courts have to now grapple with the question of which allegations in the indictment constitute official acts.”
