McCarter & English’s Government Affairs group ranks second among top lawyer-lobbyist firms by the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission’s (ELEC) report on the most active lobbying groups based on receipts. According to the report published by the New Jersey Law Journal, the firm brought in a total of $2.66 million in receipts, a 21% revenue jump from the previous year.
Guillermo Artiles, Chair of the firm’s Government Affairs Practice, told the New Jersey Law Journal that the practice has grown incrementally, client by client since starting the group six years ago. The team continues to expand as well, adding Bill Palatucci, and more recently, Michael Murphy. “Michael Murphy had an existing book of business and his clients are happy to be part of the McCarter team as part of a traditional law firm platform,” Guillermo said. “I think that is the differentiator for us. Folks really appreciate getting the breadth of a law firm when they are thinking about ways in which to deal with the Legislature, the governor’s office, and the various regulatory bodies that comprise the governor’s cabinet.”
Bill Palatucci also spoke with the Law Journal and added that clients find many advantages in large law firms with multistate operations. “Having offices from Miami to Boston, obviously with gaps in between, is so important to clients,” he said. “One of the reasons I think our practice is growing, aside from having built a great team, is that clients like working with a firm with experience in a lot of different jurisdictions.”
