BOSTON – Leigh J. Martinson has joined McCarter & English as a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group, located in Boston. He will focus on complex patent disputes involving electronics, computer software and hardware, optics and medical devices.
In addition to litigation, Martinson routinely counsels emerging and Fortune 500 companies in patent portfolio procurement, development and management, with an eye on their business goals. His engineering background and legal skills enable him to work with engineers, technical specialists and scientists, crafting strategies and tactics to protect and advance clients’ intellectual property assets, both outside and inside the courtroom.
His national practice includes representing clients before federal courts, including appellants and appellees before the Federal Circuit, as well as administrative agencies. His clients include companies across the technology sector, including software, Internet, electronic commerce, computer security, imaging systems, electronic devices and video game development.
“Having worked with Leigh in the past, I am thrilled he has joined McCarter’s team of tech lawyers,” said Elizabeth Hanley, leader of the IP group. “Besides trial and appellate experience, Leigh gives our clients excellent representation from patent prosecution and deal diligence to helping clients monetize their IP portfolios.”
Martinson regularly speaks on patent issues and has been recognized in publications such as Chambers USA, IAM Patent 100 and Managing IP.
He earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School and his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. He joins McCarter from McDermott Will and Emery, where he was a partner. Prior to law school, he worked as an engineer at Raytheon.
