McCarter & English is one of State’s Most Generous Entities

New Jersey Monthly

10.29.2015

New Jersey Monthly magazine has named McCarter & English one of the state’s most generous companies and firms in the publication’s second annual Great Oak Awards.

McCarter was one of three medium-sized company honorees, and one of 10 overall, to receive Great Oak Awards.

Kate S. Tomlinson, Publisher and Editor in Chief of New Jersey Monthly, announced the winners at a dinner on September 29, 2015, at the Palace in Somerset, N.J.

The awards were presented in conjunction with presenting sponsor Berkeley College, and marketing partners AT&T, Bank of America, Merck & Co., New Jersey Natural Gas, and NJ Sharing Network. The magazine will showcase the Great Oak Awards winners in its December issue.

Other businesses receiving the honor included Investors Bank, Johnson & Johnson, Novo Nordisk Inc., PSEG and New Jersey Natural Gas.

“Finalists and honorees range from small companies to some of the state’s largest,” says Tomlinson. “They represent diverse industries and support a myriad of charities and causes. Yet, they all have one thing in common—a passion for helping to make life better here in the Garden State.”

A multistep process determines what firms and companies receive the awards. The magazine asked leading charities to nominate the for-profit businesses that have been most generous to them, in terms of financial support, in-kind giving, volunteerism and sharing expertise. The nominated companies were then asked to submit data and commentary on their charitable contributions and volunteerism. Based on these submissions, the magazine chose 64 finalists, which an independent committee of judges winnowed down to the 10 honorees.
