McCarter & English Expands into Midwest with Opening of Office in Indianapolis

5.23.2022

McCarter & English, LLP is expanding into the Midwest, with the launch of its newest office in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The firm welcomes a group of eight lawyers and five professional staff from Ice Miller, along with two additional nurse paralegals, who will form the foundation of McCarter’s new office and help serve its national client base. McCarter’s new team, led by partners Katherine Althoff, Amy Fisher, and Kim Metzger, will focus primarily on complex product liability litigation, cybersecurity and healthcare compliance, and brings a wealth of experience representing pharmaceutical, chemical, device and other manufacturers in federal and state courts in Indiana and nationwide.

“Our firm is continuously exploring opportunities for growth to broaden and enhance our ability to serve our clients, and we could not have found a better fit than our new colleagues in Indianapolis.  We have been fortunate enough to work as co-counsel alongside Amy, Katherine, Kim and their teams for many years and observed firsthand their unique expertise and excellent reputation in the areas of drug and device litigation, data security and privacy,” said Chairman, Joseph Lubertazzi.  “They are a tremendous addition to our firm and our litigation practice, in particular, and will lead our growth efforts in this region.”

Firmwide Managing Partner Joseph Boccassini added, “We are incredibly proud to welcome Kim, Amy and Katherine to the firm.  We have witnessed their remarkable talent as leaders, counselors and advocates for years, and are looking forward to working with them to continue serving our clients and expanding our presence in the Midwest.”

The Indianapolis team includes:

Katherine D. Althoff defends pharmaceutical, heavy equipment and automotive companies in complex, bet-the-company and multi-district litigation with cases range from mass torts involving tens of thousands of plaintiffs to massive nationwide recalls. In addition, she regularly counsels companies and individuals on risk mitigation and reputation management issues.

Amy K. Fisher concentrates on national and local defense of complex, high-stakes mass tort multi-district litigation for pharmaceutical, chemical, device and cosmetic manufacturers at the federal and state levels. She has successfully represented clients before the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, and employs innovative case management and dispositive strategies to dispose of individual cases and large dockets in a cost-efficient manner.

Kim Metzger is primarily focused on pharmaceutical litigation and complex data security and privacy issues for healthcare clients. She holds several data privacy certifications and counsels clients on a range of regulatory issues, particularly HIPAA privacy compliance and FDA regulations.

The team of special counsel, associates, nurse paralegals and paralegals supporting Katherine, Amy and Kim are also focused on product liability litigation, e-discovery and complex commercial litigation for clients in the pharmaceutical, chemical, construction and medical device industries.
