McCarter & English worked closely with the Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub (MACH2) to secure $750 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Energy. President Joe Biden announced the award in Philadelphia, PA today.
MACH2 will create a “hydrogen hub,” a network of projects throughout Delaware, South Jersey, and Southeastern Pennsylvania that will produce, process, and use clean hydrogen fuel pursuant to the 2021 Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act.
Michael Maitland, McCarter & English government affairs advisor, provided strategic consulting to MACH2 from its inception and helped it earn the hydrogen hub designation and funding. “It’s a privilege to help clients committed to developing the clean energy solutions that will create green jobs and literally power our economy. The President has set ambitious goals related to manufacturing, infrastructure, and energy initiatives. MACH2 will now be at the forefront of America’s clean energy future, and McCarter is proud to be a partner in their efforts.”
Maitland served as chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-1) and multiple members of the New Jersey State Legislature. He helped MACH2 complete the federal application process and navigate stakeholder engagement while the firm provided additional legal services.
“The Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub will play an essential role in advancing our region’s economic and environmental goals by creating more than twenty thousand well-paying jobs in the production, delivery, and use of zero-emission green and pink hydrogen to repower our region’s industrial facilities, transportation systems, and agriculture sectors,” said Collin O’Mara, Chair of MACH2 and President and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation.
