Law360 named McCarter & English a 2024 Connecticut Powerhouse. Regional powerhouses are recognized for reflecting the local strengths of their states and for representing clients in deals and cases that captured national attention. Hartford managing partner Moy Ogilvie said that at McCarter, “you have the ability to represent really sophisticated clients and do complex work, whether it’s litigation or transactional matters. At the same time, the firm places such a huge emphasis on giving back through pro bono service, giving back to the bar associations and giving back to our communities. I think that McCarter is a phenomenal place to practice, and it’s what kept me here my whole career.” Stamford managing partner Basam Nabulsi also noted that members of the firm “really enjoy and respect and like the people that we practice with… People that have joined over the years have had an opportunity to participate in leadership roles. There’s a lot of transparency, there’s a lot of autonomy, there’s a lot of support.”
The firm’s work in Connecticut last year included a $1.9 million prejudgment remedy for a Connecticut healthcare organization, and representing New Haven’s housing authority in connection with an $87.9 million redevelopment of 224 multifamily apartments. The work they see is diverse, according to Ogilvie, who says that “in Connecticut, we consider ourselves a full service. We have everything all the time, from litigation to intellectual property to real estate work. I don’t think our location dictates what we have.” Leaders include Rolan Joni Young, a partner in the real estate group that helps commercial developers, lenders, public housing authorities and other organizations on development projects; Thomas Finn and Paula Cedillo, who work on complex litigation in the healthcare industry; and IP litigators David Silvia and James Bollinger. Numerous Connecticut attorneys are also on the boards of directors of legal services organizations, including Adam Swanson on Connecticut Legal Services’ board and Joseph Cherico on Connecticut Veterans Legal Center’s board.
