McCarter is deeply honored to receive the American Bar Association’s 2019 Pro Bono Publico Award. The award is presented by the ABA’s Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service to two law firms and three individuals. It recognizes McCarter’s exceptional commitment to low-income and otherwise marginalized people and communities. Public service is a core value of the firm, and McCarter’s lawyers provide high-quality, high-impact pro bono services in every area of unmet legal need.
In the last year, McCarter launched ambitious new projects throughout the firm that leverage pro bono resources to respond to areas of emerging need, augmenting our long-standing commitment to service. The firm’s lawyers provided tens of thousands of hours of pro bono services to individuals, community-based organizations, nonprofits, and low-income entrepreneurs. Highlights include the initiation of our service trip project: a team of partners, including our firmwide managing partner, traveled to rural Georgia to provide services to people held in immigration detention there. The firm created the McCarter & English Pro Bono Fellowship for the City of Newark, which dedicates a full-time attorney to serving low-income residents in the city.
The award will be presented at the ABA Annual Meeting in August 2019.
