Fifteen volunteers from McCarter & English’s Boston office partnered with Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) to hold a first-of-its-kind pro bono clinic for tenants seeking to seal records of a past eviction record, a new remedy made available by Massachusetts legislation passed earlier this year. The new law provides certain tenants the right to seal past records of an eviction, giving them a fresh start in the rental housing market and removing a barrier to safe and affordable housing.
With support and training from the team at GBLS, volunteers prepared 19 eviction sealing applications for eligible clients in just over two hours. This effort is part of McCarter’s ongoing commitment to pro bono work that puts the time and talents of the firm’s lawyers to their best and highest use: service of others.
