Hugh Murray, Chair of McCarter’s Labor & Employment practice group, spoke with Law360 about the halted contract negotiations between Starbucks and Workers United following an announced deal early last year. Hugh said that while the union has sought to build urgency in the negotiations by striking, resuming the legal fight, and appealing to the public, these actions do not appear to have moved Starbucks. He said Starbucks likely is examining how the strikes have affected their operation and if customers are responding to the union’s appeals to them. He said that if Starbucks management decides the effects have been minimal they may stand pat with their last proposal.
