Through the pro bono efforts of the individuals honored by the Amicus Awards, the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) continues to enjoy a reputation with the court for meaningful, thoughtful intervention in matters that have the potential to broadly affect the practice of law.
Former State Bar Association President Susan Feeney and Judah Skoff were instrumental in briefing and arguments for In re Opinion No. 17-2012 of the Advisory Comm. In that matter, the New Jersey Supreme Court handed a victory to residents who need help with some bankruptcies and the organizations that provide that help when it found programs such as Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (which has partnered with law firms to give free legal help to people without assets to relieve debts through bankruptcy) can, and should, continue.
