The highly anticipated trial of Michael Sussman, a former federal prosecutor and politically connected lawyer who is charged with lying when he brought the FBI a tip about possible connections between The Trump Organization and a Russian bank, begins next week. Robert Mintz, chair of McCarter’s White Collar Defense and Government Investigations group and a former federal prosecutor, comments that the trial “will be the first real test” of Special Counsel John Durham’s work. By going to trial, he said, Sussmann has “thrown down the gauntlet and challenged the significance of the prosecution and the wisdom of bringing the case.”
