The merger between UnitedHealth and Amedisys appears poised to close following a proposed $3.3 billion settlement with regulators. The deal, under scrutiny since January 2023 due to DOJ concerns over reduced competition in home health and hospice services across specific US markets, needs to be approved by a judge after a public comment period.
McCarter partner and former DOJ antitrust attorney Robin Crauthers, J.D. spoke with Healthcare Dive about the expected settlement, noting that a judge’s review is “rarely a tool turn over a settlement” and “the settlement sticks and the parties close and we all just move on.”
