Artificial Intelligence has been making its way into various industries and law firms are no exception. Intellectual property clients, in particular, have expressed concerns about how AI will impact patent law matters. Dave Christensen spoke with Technology Transfer Tactics advising that while AI systems create a tremendous opportunity for improving efficiency in the patent preparation and prosecution process, they cannot prepare a proper patent application that is fully thought through. “This may end up being highly dependent on the technology being protected. Certain types of technologies lend themselves to automation, such as some types of software,” Dave said. “However, complex mechanical cases, pharmaceutical, or artificial intelligence technologies may be less so and still require significant human-attorney drafting.”
