McCarter’s renowned Venture Capital & Emerging Growth Companies team empowers clients throughout the development cycle—from ideation to creation, capitalization, implementation, commercialization, and monetization.
Helping great clients do great things
We regularly structure and form venture capital funds and help them in making, monitoring, and monetizing their investments. Recently, we advised Harlem Capital, a venture capital firm on a mission to change the face of entrepreneurship by investing in 1,000 diverse founders over the next 20 years, on closing $134 million in capital commitments for its second diversity-focused fund, Harlem Capital Partners Venture Fund II—reportedly the industry’s largest VC fund established to date. Designed to invest primarily in companies founded by women and diverse entrepreneurs nationwide, Fund II exceeded its original target of $100 million and its revised goal of $125 million.
Keeping clients informed
McCarter lawyers know their clients’ businesses and the topics keeping them up at night. We regularly author alerts and articles to help guide and prepare them, including on the SBA’s new guidance declaring Chapter 11 debtors with confirmed plans as eligible for PPP loans. We have also covered recent developments involving the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant Program and the Restaurant Revitalization Fund Grant Program. For the latter, registration will begin April 30, at 9:00 a.m., and the SBA will begin processing applications based on its stated priorities Monday, May 3, at noon.
Awards season We are proud of the recognitions we win in the legal and business communities. Among them, ROI-NJ has named partner Dave Sorin as a technology influencer for 2021 under the category “Thought Leaders.” This follows Dave’s inclusion on NJBIZ’s Leaders in Law 2021 list. Partner Howard Berkower was named to JDSupra’s “2021 Readers Choice Awards: Finance & Banking” for authoring many alerts such as those mentioned above. And McCarter proudly received the New Jersey Business & Industry Association and New Jersey Business magazine’s Diversity & Inclusion award.
