We are pleased to share outstanding highlights this month about our firm, the venture capital landscape, and our clients and contacts who continuously enrich the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
McCarter Highlights
It has been a great year of successes for the firm and our clients. Quarter after quarter, we continue to rank regionally, nationally, and globally among the leading law firms in venture capital transactions. In 2019, lawyers in our Venture Capital & Emerging Growth Companies Practice Group undertook 242 private equity, venture capital, and M&A transactions, with gross proceeds of more than $6 billion.
Venture Capital Community Highlight
January 28 is Data Privacy Day! McCarter has a well-established Cybersecurity & Data Privacy team of lawyers ready to use their deep knowledge of federal and state privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act, to help clients manage their privacy obligations, safeguard data, enable trust, and become compliant.
For several years, we have witnessed the emergence of a statutory and regulatory framework to tighten controls on the export of emerging and critical technology as well as into the review of inward foreign investment into said technology. McCarter partner Zack Hadzismajlovic, who is focused on global trade, CFIUS, and export controls, covers these issues in the alert “Export Controls and Global Trade: A Forecast and the Year in Review.”
Client Highlight
We are proud of our clients and our work in helping them meet their business goals and objectives. McCarter lawyers Scott Smedresman and Herb Moore helped Harlem Capital Partners (HCP) raise a total of $40.3 million for its inaugural fund, which was oversubscribed from its target of $25 million and above its initial cap of $40 million. HCP is an early-stage venture capital firm on a mission to change the face of entrepreneurship by investing in 1,000 diverse founders over the next 20 years.
McCarter’s Venture Capital & Emerging Growth Companies Practice Group lawyers empower clients throughout the development cycle—from ideation to creation, capitalization, implementation, commercialization, and monetization.
