McCarter’s Venture Capital & Emerging Growth Companies Practice empowers clients throughout the development cycle—from ideation to creation, capitalization, implementation, commercialization, and monetization.
Our attorneys are on the cutting edge of legal and technological developments. Attorneys Scott Smedresman, Susan Goldsmith, and Morgan Jones published the alert Surf’s Up—California Introduces the Next Wave of the Data Privacy Revolution covering compliance guidelines and priorities for businesses that that will soon be subject to the California Consumer Privacy Act, (CCPA), a first-of-its kind data privacy law in the United States going into effect on January 1, 2020. Gain clarity on whether your business will be affected, how the regulations compare to the EU General Data Protection Regulation, and which preparations businesses should focus on now. As it stands, many parts of the CCPA are unclear, which will make near term compliance challenging until the California Attorney General issues guidance later this year. Until that time, one thing that is clear is that being GDPR compliant will not equate to CCPA compliance, and businesses should start taking steps in preparation of January 1.
We are proud to share current media coverage and other good news highlighting the accomplishments of our clients. Our client Jetson has demonstrated the power of AI with software that enables consumers to customize online food and retail orders using their voice as a user interface. Watch the CEO present Jetson’s first live demo in Norway. IWP Health, Inc., was recently featured in The World Bank article How Crowdsourcing Can Improve Food Safety discussing how their platforms iwaspoisned.com and dinesafe.org help detect and report harmful food-poisoning outbreaks in real time. It was their platform that flagged several recent outbreaks among popular food chains.
Our attorneys are frequent speakers and authors who appear regularly in the press in connection with trending topics in the tech and entrepreneurial ecosystem. For example, Dave Sorin will be moderating the sold-out NJ Tech Counsel Blockchain event at McCarter, which will explore the challenges and prospects of world-changing technologies with roundtable discussions, a keynote by Hu-manity.co founder Ritchi Etwaru, and a panel featuring different industry perspectives.
