McCarter & English partner William D. Wallach has been selected as the New Jersey State Chair of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL), one of the premier legal associations in North America. This leadership role is a reflection of Bill’s distinguished career as a trial lawyer focusing on business litigation and the ethical practice of law.
Founded in 1950, ACTL is composed of exceptional trial lawyers from the United States and Canada. Membership is by invitation only and limited to those with at least 15 years of trial experience who have demonstrated mastery in the courtroom and a commitment to the highest standards of professionalism, civility, and ethics.
As State Chair, Bill will serve as a liaison between the national organization and the legal community in New Jersey, helping to advance ACTL’s mission of improving the standards of trial practice and the administration of justice. This appointment acknowledges Bill’s leadership within the profession and the respect earned from peers and the bench alike.
Bill has more than 35 years of experience advising clients in the context of business disputes, providing sound guidance in both the courtroom and the boardroom. His practice focuses on: the representation of companies and their management in connection with their fiduciary duties and statutory obligations; member and shareholder disputes in the context of closely held entities; and situations under Articles 2, 3, 4 and 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code. Bill also serves as a mediator and arbitrator in the resolution of civil disputes, and has been appointed as a Monitor, Receiver, and Special Fiscal Agent on several occasions by Chancery Judges in New Jersey.
