With technological advancements come new ethical and legal challenges for lawyers. Lawyers have a duty to ensure the confidentiality of client information when using technological conveniences like public or unsecured WiFi networks and cloud-based storage systems. This ethics presentation provided guidance on how to preserve attorney-client privilege in the technological age, the obligation to protect client confidentiality and the steps that attorneys and corporate legal departments should be taking to adhere to the ABA’s recently issued Formal Opinion 477R on the topic.
