Dr. Bryan Sutermaster focuses his practice on US and foreign patent preparation and prosecution, drawing on his experience in stem cell biology, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, gene editing, and biomedical engineering.
Prior to joining McCarter, Bryan served as a scientist at a leading regenerative medicine biotechnology company, where he led induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) engineering efforts using gene editing platforms and used lentiviral technology to modify iPSC-derived cells with gene-of-interest candidates for evaluation in varied disease indications. He also developed in vitro characterization assays, including proliferation, wound healing, and natural killer cell–mediated cytotoxicity assays, standardized qPCR-based biodistribution quantification, and supported cell product characterization through flow cytometry and ELISA.
Bryan earned his PhD in biomedical engineering from Brown University, where his research focused on stem cell isolation and characterization technologies, including initial development of a novel nanoparticle-based, mass-added cell-sorting platform for high-throughput isolation of highly viable cell subpopulations. His graduate research also included the characterization of fluorescently and magnetically isolated adipose-derived stem cells.
