Esther Hwang represents businesses and individuals in a broad range of commercial, civil, and intellectual property disputes, as well as cybersecurity and data privacy matters and investigations. She has experience across all phases of litigation in state and federal courts in New Jersey.
As part of her commercial litigation practice, Esther represents clients in contract disputes and other business-related matters. She works with clients through all stages of a dispute, from assessing potential claims and defenses thorough litigation and resolution.
Esther’s intellectual property practice spans patent, trademark, and copyright matters. She helps clients protect and enforce their intellectual property rights and resolve related disputes.
She also has experience conducting internal investigations involving suspected fraud and represents in investigations brought by state or federal government agencies. In addition, Esther helps clients manage cybersecurity and data privacy risks, advising on cybersecurity risk management, data privacy compliance, incident response, and technology governance.
Prior to joining McCarter & English, Esther served as a judicial intern for Justice Lee A. Solomon (ret.) of the New Jersey Supreme Court and Magistrate Judge José R. Almonte of the U.S. District Court of New Jersey.
While in law school, she was a semi-finalist in the 2024 Rutgers Law Moot Court, Nathan Baker Trial Competition, and served as the Managing Articles Editor for the Computer & Technology Law Journal. She was also awarded the New Jersey Intellectual Property Law Association (NJIPLA) Immac “Casey” Thampoe Memorial Scholarship.
Esther worked as a summer associate at the firm during both summers of law school.
