Dr. Joseph Ciardi’s practice focuses on biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and plant genetics, and includes the drafting and prosecution of US and foreign patents, patent validity opinions, and freedom to operate analyses.
Prior to becoming a registered patent agent, he was a molecular biologist for a pharmaceutical biotechnology company, where he engineered proteins with improved activity and developed cell lines for production of therapeutic proteins. He also worked as a Senior Scientist for an agriculture biotechnology company, where his research focused on plant genetic engineering for improved agronomic traits.
Joseph received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Harvard University and his PhD in Horticulture from Penn State University. His doctoral research focused on the development of environmental stress tolerance in crop species. He also worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in plant molecular biology at the University of Florida, studying the role of hormone signaling proteins in plant response to pathogens. He has published several articles in peer reviewed scientific journals, and presented his work at national and international conferences.
