Zhongyu “Alex” Wang focuses on the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications in the fields of chemistry and pharmaceuticals. He assists in managing multiple global patent portfolios covering commercial drugs and clinical drug candidates. Alex conducts patentability, freedom-to-operate, and due-diligence searches and analysis. He has extensive technical experience in small molecule drugs, peptides, oligonucleotides, chemical processes, polymers, and nanomaterials.
Prior to joining McCarter & English, Alex was an associate in a DC patent boutique law firm. Prior to starting his legal career, he worked as a medicinal chemist at two multinational biopharmaceutical companies. While there, Alex designed and synthesized a variety of bioactive molecules, including small molecules, anti-sense oligonucleotides, and peptides. He is a named inventor on more than ten patents/patent applications.
While in law school at University of Connecticut School of Law, Alex was an associate editor for Connecticut Journal of International Law. He also served as executive director in Judge Janet Bond Arterton Intellectual Property Inn of Court. He received his MS from Stony Brook University and his BS from Nanjing University in Nanjing, China.
