When the federal government signals risk, the market reacts.
In a recent Reuters article, Franklin Turner explains why defense contractors are expected to move quickly to remove Anthropic from their supply chains following the Pentagon’s directive, even as the legal basis for the ban may face challenges in court.
“Most companies that do significant business with the government are hyper-aware of what the U.S. government wants and they’re likely already taking steps to cleanse their supply chains of Anthropic,” Turner said. He added, “Regardless of the legal justification, I think the threat is the point … it has already done harm, significant harm to the company.”
With companies such as Lockheed Martin expected to comply, the episode highlights a fundamental truth in government contracting: perception and policy signals can drive immediate operational and commercial consequences.
