McCarter & English today announces that partner Desiree “Desi” Grace has been appointed by Hudson County Executive Craig Guy to lead the county’s first Office of Inspector General. Grace will remain a partner in the firm’s Newark office while serving in the new role, bringing her experience in internal investigations and federal prosecution to the county’s efforts to strengthen accountability and protect taxpayer resources.
The Hudson County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the ordinance establishing the Office of Inspector General in August. Commissioners ratified Grace’s contract today.
As inspector general, Grace will investigate potential fraud, waste and abuse and help identify weaknesses in county operations that could leave public resources vulnerable. The role closely aligns with her private-sector work at McCarter, where she conducts internal investigations for companies.

Grace returned to McCarter in 2025 following nine years with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, where her leadership positions included first assistant U.S. attorney, Criminal Division chief and deputy chief of the Criminal Division. Her prosecutorial experience includes complex matters involving healthcare fraud, wire fraud and racketeering, as well as oversight of economic crime, cybercrime and national security cases.
