Female Powerbrokers Q&A: McCarter & English’s Pastor

Law360

3.12.2014

Sherilyn Pastor is a partner in McCarter & English LLP’s Newark, N.J., office, where she leads the firm’s insurance coverage group and is a member of the executive committee. She litigates complex coverage matters nationwide and advises clients assessing risks, analyzing new insurance products and considering the adequacy of their programs.

Pastor obtained summary judgment awarding Wakefern Food Corporation insurance for its 2003 Northeast blackout losses and is now handling a substantial coverage matter for Wakefern arising out of losses related to Superstorm Sandy. She helped Lucent Technologies (now Alcatel Lucent) recover its fiduciary liability coverage following class action settlements with ERISA plaintiffs. She is Transamerica Corporation’s lead trial and appellate counsel in a dispute with a former subsidiary regarding insurance Transamerica purchased as part of a consolidated risk management structure. The court ruled that Transamerica had no implied contract with the former subsidiary. The matter is on appeal.

She is the co-chair of the American Bar Association Litigation Section’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee, a founding member of the American College of Coverage and Extra-Contractual Counsel, and a member of the New Jersey Supreme Court’s Professional Responsibility Rules Committee.
